What is AILET?
The All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) is a national-level law entrance examination conducted exclusively by the National Law University (NLU) Delhi for admission to its five-year B.A.LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M., and Ph.D. programs.
Unlike the other 24 National Law Universities that accept CLAT scores, NLU Delhi conducts its own independent entrance exam. This independence allows NLU Delhi to maintain a unique testing standard heavily focused on logical deduction, reading stamina, and analytical reasoning.

Negative Marking
For every correct answer, you are awarded +1 mark. For every incorrect answer, -0.25 marks are deducted. Unattempted questions attract no penalty. This makes blind guessing extremely dangerous in AILET.
Tie-Breaking Rules
If two candidates score the exact same marks, the tie is resolved sequentially by:
1. Higher marks in the Logical Reasoning section.
2. Older age of the candidate.
3. Computerized draw of lots.
Time Management
You have 120 minutes to solve 150 questions. That gives you ~48 seconds per question. A high reading speed (250-300 WPM) and quick decision-making are non-negotiable for AILET.
OMR Pattern
AILET is an offline, pen-and-paper test. You must shade answers on an OMR sheet using a black/blue ballpoint pen. Factoring in ~10 minutes for OMR bubbling leaves you with just 110 minutes for actual solving.

- Number of Applicants: AILET sees ~15,000 to 20,000 applicants annually. Sudden surges increase the cut-off rank.
- Seat Matrix & Reservation: NLU Delhi reserves seats for Delhi domicile, OBC, SC, ST, EWS, and PwD, directly impacting general category margins.

While marks fluctuate wildly every year based on paper difficulty, the closing rank remains relatively static.

Many students ask, "How many marks do I need for NLU Delhi?" The answer is never a static number. Here is how you should evaluate your mock scores.
Safe Score
A "Safe Score" typically hovers around 85-90 marks (out of 150) in a paper of moderate difficulty. This score keeps you in contention for the final counselling rounds, although you might be on the waitlist initially.
Securing Score
To secure a confirmed seat in the very first merit list (General Category), you should aim for 95+ marks. This generally translates to an All India Rank within the top 60.
Excellent Score
An "Excellent Score" is anything above 100 marks. Historically, the AILET Topper (AIR 1) usually scores between 102 to 108 marks depending on the year's difficulty level.
The Illusion of Marks
Why can't marks alone predict admission? Because NLU Delhi scales the difficulty drastically.
In a year with a tough Logical Reasoning section, 85 marks might fetch you AIR 40. In an easier year, the same 85 marks might drop you to AIR 150—completely out of the admission race.
The Golden Rule for Mocks
Stop chasing a static score (like "I must score 95"). Instead, chase your percentile. If a mock test is brutally hard and your score drops to 70, but your percentile remains 99.5%—you are perfectly on track for NLU Delhi.

Poor Mock Analysis
Taking mocks is only 20% of the work. If you aren't spending 2-3 hours analyzing why you got a question wrong, you aren't improving.

Weak Vocabulary
