CLAT 2027 Exam Pattern Changes: What Students Need to Know

CLAT 2027 exam pattern confirmed unchanged — five sections, 120 questions, no proposed reforms apply to this year.

CLAT 2027 Exam Pattern Changes: What Students Need to Know

If you are preparing for CLAT 2027, you may have recently come across news about major changes to the Common Law Admission Test.

Reports about removing the General Knowledge section, reducing the number of questions, combining Legal and Logical Reasoning, and introducing a completely different paper structure have created confusion among aspirants.

So, has the CLAT 2027 exam pattern actually changed?

The answer is no.

The Consortium of National Law Universities has confirmed that there will be no change to the CLAT 2027 syllabus, examination pattern or sections.

Is the CLAT 2027 Exam Pattern Changed?

No. Students appearing for CLAT 2027 should continue preparing according to the existing UG examination structure.

The official CLAT 2027 instructions confirm that the examination will be conducted on December 6, 2026, from 2 PM to 4 PM, in offline mode.

The paper will continue to include five sections:

English Language

Current Affairs including General Knowledge

Legal Reasoning

Logical Reasoning

Quantitative Techniques

The paper will have 120 questions, with one mark for every correct answer and a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer.

Why Are Students Hearing About CLAT Pattern Changes?

The confusion comes from the CLAT Expert Committee Report 2026.

The committee proposed significant reforms for a future version of CLAT.

These are recommendations for consideration. They are not the CLAT 2027 exam pattern.

Should CLAT 2027 Students Stop Preparing Current Affairs?

No.

This is one of the biggest mistakes students could make after reading reports about the proposed reforms.

Current Affairs including General Knowledge remains part of CLAT 2027.

Final Takeaway

There has been considerable discussion about changing the CLAT examination, but CLAT 2027 is not changing to the proposed new pattern.

The Consortium has confirmed that the existing CLAT 2027 syllabus, sections and examination pattern will remain in place.
