IPMAT 2027 Selection Process: From Entrance Exam to Final Admission

Clearing the IPMAT exam is an important milestone, but it is not necessarily the final step in the admission process.

Students preparing for IPMAT 2027 often want to know what happens after the entrance test, how candidates are shortlisted for the Personal Interview, and how the final admission decision is made.

The answer depends on the institute. IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak have different IPM admission processes.

What Is the IPMAT Selection Process?

The IPMAT selection process generally involves more than just the entrance examination.

For the IIM Indore IPM route, the process can broadly be understood as:

Meeting the eligibility requirements

Submitting the application

Appearing for the IPM Aptitude Test

Getting shortlisted for the Personal Interview

Appearing for the Personal Interview

Being considered for the final merit list

Receiving a provisional admission offer

IIM Indore IPMAT 2027 Selection Process

For domestic applicants, IIM Indore's latest published admission procedure provides a useful reference.

Candidates who satisfy the eligibility requirements first submit their application. Eligible candidates are then considered for the IPM Aptitude Test. Candidates who perform sufficiently well can be shortlisted for the next stage.

The next stage is the Personal Interview. Final selection is based on the components specified by IIM Indore for that admission cycle.

What Happens After the IPMAT Exam?

Once the entrance examination is over, candidates do not immediately receive admission offers.

The institute first processes the examination results and determines which candidates should proceed to the next stage.

How Is the IIM Indore Personal Interview Used?

The Personal Interview is not simply a formality.

IIM Indore describes the interview as a stage where candidates are assessed on areas including confidence, communication skills, general awareness, persuasion skills and knowledge.

How Is the Final IPMAT Indore Merit List Prepared?

The final merit list is prepared using the selection criteria announced by IIM Indore for that particular admission cycle.

For the 2026–31 admission cycle, IIM Indore's official procedure states that selection is based on the overall performance in the Aptitude Test and Personal Interview.

Does Class 10 and Class 12 Performance Matter?

This depends on the institute and its selection criteria.

For example, IIM Rohtak's latest published IPM admission criteria include past academic performance as part of its final merit calculation.

What Is the IIM Rohtak IPM Selection Process?

IIM Rohtak follows a separate admission process.

Its latest published process includes:

Application and eligibility screening

IPM Aptitude Test

Shortlisting for Personal Interview

Personal Interview

Final merit list

Provisional admission

The IPM Aptitude Test includes Quantitative Ability, Logical Reasoning and Verbal Ability, with the latest published structure showing 40 questions in each section.

For the 2026–31 batch, IIM Rohtak states that the final merit list used:

IPM Aptitude Test: 55%

Class 10 academic performance: 10%

Class 12 academic performance: 20%

Personal Interview: 15%

Is Clearing IPMAT Enough to Get Admission?

No.

Clearing the entrance examination and receiving final admission are not necessarily the same thing.

At IIM Indore, the entrance examination is followed by the Personal Interview stage for shortlisted candidates.

At IIM Rohtak, the entrance test is also followed by shortlisting and a Personal Interview before the final merit list is prepared.

What Should You Do After the IPMAT Exam?

Once you have completed the entrance test, avoid assuming that your preparation is finished.

You can begin working on:

Basic interview preparation

Communication skills

Current affairs and general awareness

Questions about your academic background

Final Thoughts

The most important takeaway is simple:

IPMAT is not just about the entrance test.

Your journey can include the application, aptitude test, shortlist, Personal Interview and final merit list, depending on the institute.
